Carlos Alcaraz has spent much of the last three years on America’s tennis tour playing a very different tennis game. Playing with a club foot that caused him to lose most of his lower limbs, he went 6–3 in his first two Grand Slam seasons and won the Olympic gold medal in doubles. He then earned his way onto the ATP Tour by the skin of his teeth, going undefeated in 25 Grand Slam tournaments.

He made his return in 2012 by winning the French Open and making a run to the US Open final a year later. On the tour, he’s won 14 Grand Slams, making him arguably the fourth best male player on the tour behind Rafael Nadal, John Isner and Andy Murray (who at one point was only two away from winning his fourth title).

He then spent much of 2014 playing no-man’s-land, with his best results coming at the end of the year, where he returned to Top 25 play and made two quarterfinals.

He has had his best run in Paris this year, but his tournament results after his return to Top 10 have been very disappointing. He lost in the first round of the US Open and the first round of the Cincinnati Masters. Even he admitted that the first half of his season was his best. But the second half of his season has not been good, and he’s been on the wrong side of a lot of top players’ rankings, which makes it even more disappointing.
