Novak Djokovic defeats Stefanos Tsitsipas in Astana Open final to win his 90th career ATP title
Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (2-7) to win his 90th career ATP title in the Astana Open on Saturday afternoon.
In the first set, Djokovic took charge in the early stages of the first set, with Tsitsipas struggling to deal with his pace and accuracy, making five double faults while losing six games in a row. Djokovic, though, began to take over in the third set, and was able to take the lead in the fourth. He would get the break in the sixth game, but Tsitsipas would get a break serve game in the seventh and go on to win the set.
The second set started promisingly for Djokovic, as he broke Tsitsipas in the first game, and was ahead 7-5. However, the Greek man saved match points in the next two games, and went on to lose the set. Djokovic, however, was able to get the break back in the fourth game of the fifth set, and again took the lead. Tsitsipas, though, rallied in the seventh game, and the Australian was able to serve out the set.
In the final set, Djokovic played much better, as he came to the court at 7-5 in the early stages of the set, but Tsitsipas would stay with him. The Greek player was able to tie the set in the fifth game of the seventh set, but Djokovic was able to win the set. The final set was the second of the match, and Tsitsipas won it 7-6 (7-2).
