Toronto Public Health vice-chair questions city’s COVID-19 policy

A Toronto Public Health “vice-chair” has been making noise with the city’s COVID-19 policy.

The “vice-chair” is Dr. Gino Di Lorenzo, who is chair of the committee that writes the policy and acts as the spokesman for the city in public statements.

Among other things, the public health panel is responsible for advising the mayor on the various policies and the guidelines and guidelines for the ministry of health.

Di Lorenzo released a statement last week saying the city’s COVID-19 policies had “to be developed in a transparent way and should not remain secret.”

In an interview this week Di Lorenzo said the public health minister had made it clear that keeping the policy secret is unacceptable.

“I think that it is an infringement on the rights for people to have information when they’re going into decisions and policies that impact what they do,” he said. “I think that we can have a more transparent process when dealing with issues of public health like this.”

Di Lorenzo said it’s not unusual for a city to take the lead on public health issues like the COVID-19 pandemic.

And he believes his role is to help the city move forward.

“The city is a place where a lot of things happen… The city is moving forward as part of what we call public health management,” he said.

“The city has lots of departments. We have Health and Community Services, and there are lots of other community services that are involved in supporting the community, but those things are not in our jurisdiction.”

Di Lorenzo said he’s proud of his role, because it allows him to help “make sure that the city as a whole does what it needs to do, and supports community members in the right ways.”

“I’m very focused on protecting the public
