Letters to the Editor: The simple reason Republicans picked Herschel Walker — celebrity or no celebrity, good or bad — might be that he has the face and face of a good man.
In the last election, Democrats had a guy named Bill Clinton and we got Al Gore. Then we have Herschel Walker.
Walker was my friend in high school and my friend in college. He’s a good man and a good baseball player.
When he was elected president in 2000, I was elected mayor of New York and he was elected governor of Michigan.

The reason is because he was a Democrat. Democrats don’t do anything now. Democrats are not interested in doing anything now. But Walker was a Democrat. He’s been endorsed by a lot of Democrats and that’s part of the reason why he’s been elected.
So why are we doing this here, in Lansing, when we can do something better with Michigan Republicans and have an election?
